Birmingham Airport was busier than ever this week when staff from World Duty Free joined forces with our team to start walking for ‘dreams.’
As part of her busy schedule, Corporate FundRaiser Paula Jones met Promise Dreams friends WDF to see them ‘walk the walk’ as well as see the fabulous range of perfumes, cosmetics, wines, spirits, champagne, fashion accessories, confectionery and souvenirs on offer at their Birmingham branch – and slap bang in the middle of the last Bank Holiday getaway of the year!
Paula is a big fan of the team there and said, ‘World Duty Free are great friends of Promise Dreams and continue their ultimate professional customer care into charitable fundraising. Some people can ‘talk the talk’ but believe me, World Duty Free can ‘Walk the Walk’ as well!’
Those off on a last minute summer holidays and those returning from far off destinations were treated to the site of an 18 hour non-stop walkathon on exercise machines outside the busy airport World Duty Free retail outlet as we approach our prestigious ‘Walk for Dreams’ on Sunday 21st September.
WDF team members including James Brayson and Kirsty Ahmed could be seen striding for success in helping to raise awareness and get fit for the big event. ‘This is so exhilarating and every step we take will bring pleasure and happiness to children who need our help,’ said James as he stayed focused on the long walk ahead of him.
And this was just the start! After a gentle jog for 18 solid hours they will be busy signing up friends, family, customers and airport passengers alike. ‘This is just to promote the real ‘Walk for Dreams’ on Sunday 21st September in Wolverhampton. We will all be there on the ‘big day’ and having a blast to help children’s dreams come true!’ Said a very breathless James.
The WDF Store Operations Manager Ian Arblaster was equally impressed, ‘My team are massive fans of Promise Dreams and we have supported the charity over the last two years. They were keen to do the walk on Sunday 21st September and unanimously voted to support Promise Dreams in their quest to help children and families.’
Indeed, Ian and the WDF staff have already signed up 57 walkers for the actual event from Himley Hall to Wolverhampton Racecourse on Sunday 21st September and will also take responsibility for leading a team of Marshalls to supervise and support walkers enroute!
As Ian said, ‘I am a dad myself and children are our most precious resource. They are the future.’ He went on, ‘I have a fantastic team at World Duty Free and I know we will have a lot of fun on the ‘Walk for Dreams’ next month as well as raising funds for such a magnificent cause. I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved and help deliver promised dreams to children everywhere.’
So the message is clear. Take a ‘Walk for Dreams’ on Sunday 21st September by registering today. You, your family and your friends will have a great day out as well as making someones special dream true – just by enjoying a wonderful walk. Oh, and by the way, next time you are off on your travels, why not pop into World Duty Free? Purchase your presents and pamper yourself through our fabulous friends at World Duty Free!
