With Christmas around the corner it was smiles all round as local legend Steve Bull dropped in to St. Michael’s Primary School in Tettenhall this month. The children greeted the Wolves and England superstar warmly as he launched the ‘Send A Dream’ Christmas campaign on behalf of Wolverhampton based charity Promise Dreams.
Head Teacher Kate Jackson was visibly thrilled to meet Bully and take part in the Christmas campaign. She said, ‘This is a wonderful scheme where every member of the community can get involved. Children and school staff can sign a huge Promise Dreams Christmas card and make a small donation to the charity that helps other, less fortunate children rather than buy lots of little cards that cost a fortune. We are overjoyed to be involved!’
And the ‘Send A Dream’ launch went down really well with the children too as they gathered around the famous former footballer and patron of Promise Dreams. Questions ranged from ‘how many goals did you score?’ to ‘what will you get for Christmas!’
Steve explained he scored 306 goals in his career with 18 hat tricks and 4 goals at the highest level for England but he also said what he wanted most this year was for every child to have a happy Christmas and receive the very best chances possible in life. It’s why Steve is involved with Promise Dreams.
Promise Dreams is a National charity dedicated to helping seriously ill and terminally ill children and their families by turning a very special wish into reality – whether the child would like a holiday, a toy, medical treatment or equipment, house alterations, or even the chance to meet their favourite celebrity. This is where the ‘Send A Dreams’ scheme comes in!
Schools, shops, local businesses and even family and friends can get involved and make it a very special Christmas for children who need a little help – just by writing a lovely message and donating some change to promise a dream come true.
We know that every year 1.7bn Christmas cards are sent to people Britain! That’s a lot of cards that cost a lot of money. The Promise Dreams ‘Send A Dream’ scheme offers people a fantastic choice by asking people to write their message of goodwill in a collective Christmas card which can be displayed anywhere they want. Each person can make a small donation which will then be spent on giving a truly wonderful gift for a child or family that needs it.
You can help our very special children to get their dream in 2015 by putting your festive message into one of our large Christmas cards instead of sending your own cards. If you can help us, we will bring a special Promise Dreams card for you to display and all we ask is that every time someone signs they make a donation to Promise Dreams. If this sounds like something that you would like to be involved with then please give me a call on 01902 212451.
