There was plenty of glam and glitter last week when Promise Dreams staged their annual gala dinner at Wolverhampton Racecourse with ‘Putting on the Ritz!’
It was exceptional entertainment from start to finish with top recording artists ‘Go West’ headlining the prestigious evening. Lead singer Peter Cox and Richard Drummie have played live around the world since their first hit single in 1985 and continue with their hugely successful tour playing to packed houses earning their reputation as an outstanding, exciting live act.
They belted out all of their classics including ‘We Close our Eyes,’ ‘King of Wishful Thinking’ and ‘Call Me’ as well as new tracks from their latest album called, ‘3D.’
They were well supported by Captain Redeye and the Hoods – a band forged in the gin-joints and speakeasies of the UK, and purveyors of highly refined vintage gangster swing!
Two surprise acts took the 400 strong audience by storm – Jess Needham kicked off the evening with her tear-jerking rendition of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ and X Factor finalist Chloe Jasmine gave stunning, sultry, jazz-fuelled renditions of ‘Cry Me a River, ‘That Old Devil Called Love’ and ‘Toxic.’
The evening was compered by our very own local celebrity from BBC Sport, Suzi Perry – the face of MotoGP, Wimbledon, the London Marathon, Olympics, the Gadget Show and of course, all the televised Formula 1 Grand Prix events. We are extremely proud of Suzi and her commitment to Promise Dreams; and we were delighted she was able to host our 2014 Gala event – arguably the best we have ever produced.
Following a drinks reception, foyer entertainment, a warm welcome from Charity founder Suresh Bawa and a delightful dinner, everyone entered into the spirit of the ‘roaring twenties’ and let their hair down by ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz.’ It was a dream evening!
The gala dinner and dance also enabled Promise Dreams to raise additional funds to help fulfil other dreams – those of children and families who have serious and often terminal illnesses.
As Charity Manager Beverley Bird explained, ‘We appreciate that today’s climate is still very tough for everyone and we value all the support shown this evening. We are still receiving applications on a daily basis so we are really, really grateful for the many and varied ways in which people help. I know people will really enjoy the evening and take away some great memories.
Well, people had a great time and they all ‘dug deep’ for the charity auction and raffle with everyone leaving ‘Putting on the Ritz’ with that winning feeling.
Of course, this fabulous evening would not have been possible without the involvement and generosity of all the wonderful Promise Dreams supporters; and the people who work tirelessly to put these events together.
We take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who has contributed in someway throughout the past wonderful year. For their help with ‘Putting on the Ritz’ we must say a special thank you to Alto Digital Networks, Barclays Bank, Brunel Franklin, Chloe Jasmine, Captain Redeye & the Hoods, Coin A Drink, Go West, Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, Lloyds Bank, Porky, Show Systems, Signal 107, Stageworkz, Steve Bull, Steve Cooper, Suzi Perry and Wolverhampton Racecourse.
As Bev said, ‘As a charity that receives no Government or Lottery funding, we are entirely reliant on the support and generosity of the public. This is just one of the reasons why we are so grateful to everyone who is ‘Putting on the Ritz’ and being here to support some very special families. Please know that your support really will make a difference, and on behalf of all the families that we will now be able to help – THANK YOU!’
